El Pou de la gGallina
El Pou de la gallina.mp3 de John Olufs

The wind was blowing in off the sea
Early in the 17th century
A little girl crying in the middle of town
Said "Someone save my chicken or my chicken will drown!"
She was headed for the Market when she stopped at the well
And that is where her chicken fell
A crowd begin together when they heard her wail
"Someone get my chicken up from out of that well!"
Oh, Déu n'hi do! Oh, Déu n'hi do!

They lowered the bucket but it wouldn't get in
They tried to throw down a rope with a loop on the end
The people tried everything they could
But whatever they tried didn't do any good
An old woman offered a comforting word she said
"You know that a chicken is nothing but a bird"
The little girl didn't hear a word she said
Because they raised up the chicken and the chicken was dead
Oh, Déu n'hi do! Oh, Déu n'hi do!

The tailor came out when he heard the crowd
And he told them all they were being too loud
He said "You know Saint Ignatius used to say his prayers
In the little chapel right across the square"
He said "There's nothing more than anyone can do
but pray to the saint to watch over you"
They bowed their heads and the silence fell
and when they looked up the chicken was alive and well
Oh, Déu n'hi do! Oh, Déu n'hi do!
Oh, Déu n'hi do! Oh, Déu n'hi do!
